Activities of the Virginia Section
The Virginia Section is very active in our region. We have educational grants that provide seed money for K - 12 teachers to do science in their classroom, we support regional and state wide meetings such as SERMACS and Virginia Academy of Science; we annually participate in National Chemistry week, Chemist Celebrate Earth Day and the Chemistry Olympiad. Glass blowing demonstration is scheduled for Thursday June 2, 2016 at 3:00 pm at Research Glass, 704 Dawn St, Richmond (near The First Tee golf course). WCC members, ACS members and guests are welcome, but space is limited, so please RSVP firstname.lastname@example.org.
Following the tour at Research Glass, we will then be meeting for a happy hour at Kitchen 64, 3336 North Blvd, Richmond, VA 23230. http://www.kitchen64.com/ Time will be approximately 4:30 to 6:30 pm. Anyone not able to attend the tour at Research Glass is welcome to join us at the happy hour.
The Virginia Section of the American Chemical Society supports K - 12 science education in our region by awarding three Excellence in Teaching awards each year.
The teaching awards are traditionally presented at our local meeting in early December.
The Virginia Section continues to accept nominations for these teaching awards. A candidate may be nominated by their principal, science specialist, or other individual who is qualified to describe the teaching effectiveness of the candidate.
