A Century of Service

Younger Chemist Committee

Announcements : Community Service

One thing we would like to start this year is performing more service/outreach in the community. When looking for volunteer opportunities I saw that the organization Housing Families First need groups to hold activities for children/teenagers Wednesdays while adults are in classes. I would like to see if there is an anyone who may be interested in participating in this program once a month or every other month. For more information click on the link below. Please let me know if you are interested and we can sign up for upcoming dates.

- STEM fair judges and screeners are still needed. If you are interested go to www.mymsic.org and click on create an account-login and follow the prompts.  Once you have created a profile email Vonita Giddings for a screener ID that will allow you to set up an account at the MathScience Innovation Center site.

Notes from the Meeting

Hi everyone,
Thank you to those who came out to the meeting!

A quick summary for those who couldn't make it: (PowerPoint attached)

-We would like to do a chromatography workshop (possibly @VCU/MCV lab) this spring 2016 between Feb-April. This would be a 1 time 2-3 hour event for students/young professionals looking to obtain or enhance separation science skills. We would partner with RCDG (Richmond chromatography discussion group)

-YCC/ACS will post volunteer opportunities (please explore the VA ACS website: http://virginia.sites.acs.org/ )

-We would like to make more meetings and events FUN and relevant

-As an idea, YCC members can practice leadership and presentation skills by becoming committee chairs, leading projects started by the YCC, and possibly introducing speakers at the monthly ACS meetings.

Please let me know if you have any feedback or would like to volunteer to help with a particular activity. It would be great to have one or two people help with rolling out the Mentoring Program in spring 2016!

Thanks!

A Message and a Survey

Hi everyone!

It was good to see some of you at the September Virginia ACS meeting! I'd like to set up a Younger Chemists Committee meeting. Anyone who is a current member or would like to contribute to the YCC is welcome to attend.

We will brainstorm ideas for the next YCC events and activities. This is an opportunity to share what YOU would like from ACS/YCC and get involved in current activities.

Please fill out this poll so I can plan the meeting according to everyone's schedules. I know many people have busy schedules- so I will be posting meeting info online so you can catch up and contribute!
